Advanced Placement (AP)

Advanced Placement Courses

AMCHS had 145 AP Scholars in 2018, including 15 National AP Scholars!
Congrats to CSISD for being named to the AP District Honor Roll for the 5th year in a row!

AMCHS offers many College Board approved Advanced Placement (AP) courses to enhance our students’ educational career. AP is a voluntary program in which students take college-level courses while still in high school.

Studies have shown that students who take AP courses and exams are much more likely than their peers to complete a bachelor's degree in four years or less (CollegeBoard). After taking an AP course, students have the opportunity to take the corresponding AP Exam, which, depending on their score and the college they ultimately attend, could earn them college credit and save them time and money.

AP encourages critical thinking and analysis. It teaches students to manage their time while they learn to deal with college level work. The structure of these classes encourages independent study skills. Students should plan with their parents and counselors to make sure all pre-requisite courses have been scheduled early on to allow them to take the AP courses of their choice. Highly qualified teachers who have received advanced training through AP workshops, conferences and university coursework teach these courses. The AP courses offered at AMCHS include:

Art and CATE : Art History, Studio Art 2D, 3D and Drawing, Computer Science
Math: Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Statistics
English: English Language and Composition (Juniors), English Literature and Composition (Seniors)
Science: Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1 and 2, Physics C Electricity/Magnetism and Mechanics
Languages: French Language, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, Latin, German

2019 Advanced Placement Exam Information

AMCHS does not offer tests for courses not taught on our campus. Any student in the building can pay for and take an AP exam even if they are not enrolled in the AP course. AMCHS does allow home school students who live in our attendance zone to pay for and take the AP exam with our students. All home schooled students must adhere to all the dates/guidelines outlined below.

Exam fees are $94 per person. Students who are eligible for Free and Reduced lunch pay a $30 fee per exam. We understand that on rare occasions students must cancel an exam. Unfortunately, plans are made for testing based on the number of tests being given. No refunds will be given once payment has been collected.
